Business Culture Around the World

Posted on October 15, 2011

The first thing someone new to international business relations learns is that not everyone is the same. Anytime your business is involved in a global commerce situation, you must understand the nuances that matter most to the individuals with whom you are dealing. Stumbling haphazardly out of the blocks by making customary mistakes can be very harmful to any future success.

It is easier to communicate now than at any other time in history with people around the world, but that often also makes it easier to make mistakes, too. Emails and video conferencing have made it possible to transact business with people on the other side of the globe, and this is a great way to launch negotiations with companies you may know very little about. However, establishing a working situation almost always requires some personal contact before any firm deals are made.

During phone calls or video conferencing, it is extremely important to understand protocol regarding the culture of the people you are conversing with, and the same holds true in any physical meetings as well. Additionally, the first contact requires that you know etiquette concerning the handshake or greeting.

The Importance of the Greeting in International Commerce

In most international commerce, both parties attempt to learn the traditional form of greeting of the other party. Throughout the world, the western handshake style of greeting is understood, but that does not necessarily mean that it should be the automatic first choice. If you are familiar enough with the customs of the person(s) you are meeting, you should be prepared to greet them in that fashion. Read more...

Build and Sustain Customer Loyalty

Posted on October 13, 2011

These days, when I look around my house, I see more things made in other countries than ever before. Being a true lover of diversity and an adventurer at heart, balanced with loyalty to my country, I want to see the United States of America have the highest quality inventions, services and products on the market. It often surprises me, when I see such a lack of customer focus in the States. After all, aren't all the businesses in America founded on a government for the people by the people?

As a Six Sigma professional, there are many paths, (Six Sigma Lean, Six Sigma Improve, and Six Sigma Design) that can assist in defining the voice of the customer. Most companies do not want to spend the time executing all of the Six Sigma Design tools. As this is a very data intensive endeavor, what we need to realize is that Six Sigma is scalable to your business needs.

Below I've listed 10 scalable ways to increase customer loyalty:

1. Define clear customer segmentation e.g. who do we want to attract and retain?

2. Determine key customer expectations from that target group

3. Understand why people go to our competitors' e.g. immediate/ free delivery?

4. Effectively match your product/service demand with your customer channel e.g. if you're a call center offer a voice response for product status checks

5. Conduct a top-down analysis of your current people, processes and tools to see how capable you are to meet your targeted customer needs Read more...

The Benefits Of Good Document Shredding Services To A Business

Posted on October 3, 2011

The business world is becoming more and more competitive with every day the sun rises. This means that more than ever before, you can't afford to waste even a single minute. Simple office routines like document shredding usually eat into productive employee time. Leaving your employees to spend almost an hour getting rid of outdated records is not wise, at least not in the current business environment. The wise business owners who have discovered this secret choose to outsource paper shredding services from external firms. This is without doubt a smart move to make, as it comes with many benefits.

Efficiency

Document shredding performed on a smaller scale might not be overwhelming or take up too much time but what about for medium sizes or large firm that have to shred thousands of documents every single day? Such firms can't rely on basic office shredders to do the job. These machines can't handle large quantities and are slow. Mobile shredding services on the other hand can get the job done in minutes. They use industrial efficient shredders to ensure all documents are destroyed quickly and efficiently whenever you need it done.

Save On Productive Time

One of the most important benefit of good paper shredding services is that they help a business save on precious employee time. It is pointless to have a secretary delay work on a project because he or she was held up shredding paper. Letting an outside company take care of your shredding needs will afford your office employees sufficient time to do other useful work. This is the only way to enable them to be as productive as they can be. Read more...
